Ever since I have been using medical marijuana on a daily basis, I have changed my outlook on marijuana.

I remember being the so-called goody two shoes when I was younger.

I was brought up in a very strict, religious household, who did not believe in dancing or drug use. I know it sounds odd but dancing and drug use in the same sentence, but our church made it sound like they were both demons. As I got older, I realized that dancing can be a lot of fun, and it does not lead to inequities. Now that I am in my 60s, I’m realizing that using marijuana does not mean that I’m a drug addict. When using marijuana for something other than to just get high, it becomes a part of medicine. I was taking 14 pills a day, and seven of them were for pain. Once I discovered marijuana and what it could do to ease my pain, I could get rid of some of those painkillers. It was nice to not walk around the house as though I was in the fall go all the time because of pain pills ‌I was taking. I wasn’t dizzy 90% of the time. Medical marijuana could take the edge off my pain and give me a lucidity that I hadn’t had in years. I took off the blinders and I couldn’t believe that for so long there was such a stigma on marijuana use. More people need to take off their blinders and realize that marijuana is for more than just getting high.

Several months ago, I had to go to the emergency room for severe stomach and back pain.

I didn’t know what was going on, but I knew I was hurting.

It took them nearly an hour to call me into the triage room. During that time, I was pacing back-and-forth in the waiting room because the pain was excruciating and I couldn’t sit. I was in the triage room for less than five minutes before the nurse told me ‌I had kidney stones. She asked what I was using for pain and I told her I had medical marijuana. She looked at me a bit oddly, and I thought she was going to say something negative. I was so wrong about the negative comments, because she only said, “Good for you”. She told me that if she could legally tell patients, she would tell them that marijuana should not be a stigma, but something that people use to help ease pain and so many other complications of different ailments. I was in so much pain that I didn’t give any thought to blurting out that I use medical marijuana. Had I given it any thought, I would have said nothing in case she would have thought I was a habitual drug user. Ever since hearing her comment, I realize that using medical marijuana should not be something to be ashamed of. Having a medical ID card and using marijuana products in the proper way should carry no more stigma than the use of prescription drugs. I just wish more people felt this way about the use of marijuana products.

I’m not sure what I expected the first time I walked into the marijuana dispensary, but I wasn’t expecting to smell marijuana even before getting through the doors.

The odor of marijuana was so overpowering that I was sure I would be high even before I got back outside. It’s not even like I have a lot of experience with the odor of marijuana, but if you smelled it once, you never forget that odor. When I got inside, I commented to the budtender about the powerful smell that was outside. She thought it was funny and said that she’s got used to it and didn’t even notice anymore. I didn’t think that the scent of marijuana was something that I would ever get used to, because it was so pungent. That was the ‌odor that any long-term marijuana user would equate with their youth. Even though my older sister and brother used marijuana back in the 60s, I just didn’t see any sense in using it. If they were both alive today, they would be shocked to find out that I was using medical marijuana. I guess, to be honest, I’m a little surprised at myself for using medical marijuana. All of that aside, I’m glad that I can purchase legal marijuana for medical purposes. Over the last two years, medical marijuana has been the only thing that has given me the ability to get out of bed in the morning and keep moving all day long. I don’t even want to think about where I would be right now, if it hadn’t been for medical marijuana.

Not being able to drive, I have a difficult time getting to the marijuana dispensary.

My husband works long hours, and he is not in the mood to go to the marijuana dispensary when he gets home from work.

We usually wait until weekends, and then the traffic is so heavy that he gets frustrated sitting in it. Last month, I heard that our local marijuana dispensary was considering allowing delivery in my area. I was excited to hear this news. All I would have to do is go online in the morning, put in my order, and have it delivered that afternoon. When I went to the marijuana dispensary yesterday, I questioned them about the possibility of having a home delivery made. The budtender said she knew nothing about home delivery, but she asked if I would want to and she would send out a manager. When the manager came out, I asked him about the home delivery services? He said that it was something that the owner of the dispensary was tossing around, but they didn’t think there would be enough customers who wanted home delivery, so they bagged the idea. I couldn’t believe that they didn’t see a need for home delivery. There were so many people who had the same difficulty getting to the marijuana dispensary as I did. Maybe they should have taken some kind of survey to see who would and would not use home delivery if the medical marijuana dispensary offered it. I don’t know if home delivery will ever come to fruition, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

When they opened the medical marijuana dispensary in my area, I was excited. I asked my husband how hard he thought it would be to make brownies from medical marijuana. My husband was the first one to taste the pot brownies, and all he could do was smile. With 1/2 an hour, he asked me just how much RSO oil I had put into that batch of brownies. I told him I put in the entire vial. He raised an eyebrow and said that I picked up the wrong RSO oil. I used an RSO oil that was very high THC content instead of the RSO oil that had low THC and a high CBD content.

For almost a month, we had been hearing them talk about legalizing recreational marijuana almost every day.

Every newscast that you saw had some kind of blurb on how close our state was getting to legalizing recreational marijuana.

My husband was still on the fence about whether it would ever really pass into becoming a law, backspace. My doctor knew that I didn’t want to use THC. I was not interested in getting high or using it as a hallucinogenic, but I wanted to have CBD with a small amount of THC to help ease my pain and make the rest. I have a lot of family members who used to enjoy using recreational marijuana, but it looks like that part of the law will not pass this year, but I’m glad the medical marijuana will still be legal. I feel bad for family members who used street recreational marijuana for pain, but they could get the medical marijuana ID card just like I did.

I explained to the pharmacist about the pain I had going from my lower back into my‌ legs, and I explained to them how my spine was slowly deteriorating. He showed me several products he had to help ease the pain and make it easier for me to walk. Some of the medical marijuana products were used to help eliminate the inflammation and swelling that comes from arthritis pain, which is what was causing my spinal deterioration. Driving 6 miles to this new marijuana dispensary was so much easier than driving 50 miles to the last medical marijuana dispensary that we use. Being able to drive a short distance and still get all the marijuana products that I needed made my life so much easier. My husband is happy to have a marijuana dispensary that is closer.

I hadn’t used marijuana when I was a teenager, and I wasn’t feeling right abut using marijuana now that I was getting old.

I remembered how many times I had warned my children and grandchildren about the dangers of using marijuana. I believed it was a gateway drug because that is what my parents had taught me. It helps relieve pain without making you sleepy. The next thing she brought out for me were some creams and salves that were applied topically where the pain was the worst. The last thing she gave me was what she called an Indica. Indica typically has more THC, which is used to help you ‌sleep. Her recommendation was to use these sativa products during the day to help me continue moving, and use Indica at night. Every couple of hours, I can also rub the cream or salve into the area where it hurts the most.

A few nights ago, I made a really silly mistake. I had run to the marijuana dispensary to pick up some products for my mom. My mom has a medical marijuana card and I have a card as her caretaker. I was heading over to her house for dinner, and she asked if I could pick up her online order on my way. The dispensary was right on the way and it would be no problem at all. However, when my husband got into the dispensary, he told them who he was there for and they told him they had my order ready. While waiting for them to bring it out to him, my husband started looking around at the marijuana products. He spotted one product that was called northern lights, which just so happened to be on sale. My husband decided to buy some for me. When he got home, I asked him why he would buy that kind of marijuana product. He told me that it was because he thought the name was cool since he always wanted to see the Northern Lights. I burst his bubble when I told him that I was not looking to get high, which is what would happen if I used the northern lights marijuana. I thanked me for making the purchase, and asked him where the rest of my marijuana products were? In his haste to purchase the northern lights and bring it home to me, he had paid for the entire order but left my online order on the counter. He called the marijuana dispensary and told him ‌we would be back within the next 15 minutes to grab the rest of the order. I was pretty sure he was going to have me return the northern lights if he was already this silly without it!
